Biography
Andrew O’Connor is a Scottish Director of Photography with a passion for visual storytelling that emotionally engages audiences. He has worked across a wide range of productions including film, television, commercials, documentary, and broadcast. His work has been broadcast on the BBC, Film4, and StudioCanal, and his films have screened at leading festivals such as SXSW, Tribeca, Raindance, Encounters, Aesthetica, Flickerfest, EIFF, GSFF, LSFF, BFI Flare, and The Iris Prize. Andrew’s short films have received multiple honours, including a Welsh BAFTA nomination and a Scottish BAFTA New Talent Award nomination for Cinematography. His short “SCUZZ” won Best Cinematography at the Cornwall Film Festival (2021). His film “TOO ROUGH” has won 29 international awards, including Best Short Film at the Scottish BAFTAs, Best Short Film at the BIFAs, and Best UK Short Film at the London Short Film Festival. It was also nominated for the SXSW Grand Jury Award and won the Audience Award at the Glasgow Short Film Festival (2022). His recent work,”BLACKWOOL”, became the first Scottish film officially selected for the Tribeca Film Festival. Following a strong festival run, it won the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Short Film (2024). Currently, Andrew has several films in competition at international festivals. His Gaelic-language short “SEAFORTH”recently won Best Live Action Short at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. The BBC Three short film “PINEAPPLE” directed by Alia Ghafar, which Andrew shot has just aired on BBC 3 and is available on BBC iPlayer.
